She is Made of Moving Things, 2026
Overview
‘She Is Made of Moving Things’ is a print series by Davis exploring climate colonialism and the impact of hurricanes on the Caribbean. Forming as storms in West Africa, hurricanes travel the Atlantic along routes that echo the triangle of the Transatlantic Slave Trade before making landfall in the Caribbean. As oceans increasingly warm, their intensity is growing, devastating vulnerable nations.
In this series, created as part of her Zsuzsi Roboz Scholarship, the artist personifies hurricanes as enslaved women with photopolymer etching and hand-beading. They are figures of strength, vengeance and grief, all renamed with reclaimed West African names.
